HOW TO GET THERE?

Visitors will either arrive at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka or the Livingstone Airport (LVI), just outside of Livingstone. There are several international airlines flying in from neighboring African countries, like South Africa, Kenya, Namibia, and Tanzania. Flights from North America can be arranged with South African Airways or British Airways. European airlines such as Air France, KLM, and Lufthansa also fly to Zambia, via Johannesburg or Harare (Zimbabwe). You can also get direct flights from Dubai to Lusaka via Emirates Airlines.

Passport, visa and other entry requirements

• Valid passport for at least six months
• Passports must have at least three empty pages
• Visitors arriving from a yellow-fever-infected country must present a yellow fever vaccination certificate
• Citizens of most countries don’t need a visa, and where required, can simply obtain one on arrival

Where is Zambia?

Zambia is a landlocked country of rugged terrain and diverse wildlife in southern Africa. It features a tropical climate and boasts several high plateaus with some hills and mountains, dissected on different sides by river valleys. At 752,614 km2, Zambia is the 39th-largest country in the world and is bordered by the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north, Malawi to the east, Zimbabwe and Botswana to the south, and Angola to the west. On its border with Zimbabwe is the world-famous Victoria Falls – plunging a misty 108m into the narrow Batoka Gorge. Its local currency is the Zambian Kwacha (ZMK), while its people are called Zambians.

BEST TIME TO GO

Right now! National parks are open for long periods of time during the year, so you can get started on prepping your trip as soon as possible. However, the dry season (July — October) is ideally the best time for game viewing activities. The wildlife camps are closed during the rainy season (December to March) to accommodate the rising water levels in the rivers. This just means there’s beautiful greenery everywhere and abundant bird migrations to keep you and your camera busy.
